Bachelor project supervised by Roger GERARD, on the theme of pattern making. My approach to this practice focused on the creation of a pattern through folded diagrams and photographs.
Plus loin avant is the result of a process of moving from 2D to 3D. Shaping then flattening, breaking down solids before forging new ones. Deceiving the eye on what it really perceives. By combining volumes and photos of volumes.
Through the fold, volumes are created, shadows and points of light appear. But the photo of this fold will always remain in 2D, which in turn can be reshaped before becoming flat again and repeating these steps indefinitely.
By applying these folds and volumes to the pattern and to the garment itself, a trompe l’œil is created, right down to the shape of the garment itself.
As a proof format, I decided to apply my patterns to sports equipment. The folds and the sharp shapes intensify the idea of dynamism given to sports, but also carry ideas of speed, precision, and performance.
